What a hash lookup does
A cryptographic file hash is a fixed-length identifier calculated from file contents. ATROXIS submits the supplied hash to VirusTotal and displays an existing report when available. If the service has no record, the lookup cannot provide an analysis of the file’s behavior.
Matching a hash identifies exact known contents; even a small file change produces a different hash. Hashes can be useful for triage and comparison but do not explain what a file does.
Privacy and limitations
The hash string is sent to VirusTotal to retrieve reputation data. The result depends on a configured API key, upstream coverage and rate limits. A missing record is not a clean verdict, and a detection report may be stale or contain false positives.
